Team Practices

DragonSports USA has six Hong Kong-style practice boats moored at the RiverPlace Marina for use by club members. When not being used for open practice, the boats are available for rent by dragon boat teams at the rate of $22/hour. All team paddlers, callers and tillers must be DSUSA members and have signed a waiver.

If your team would like to reserve practice time on our boats, please download the Team Boat Rental Packet and email the DSUSA Scheduler to schedule your practice.

Team Boat Rental Terms

  • At least one individual from each Team shall be designated as the Team Contact for purposes of renting dragon boats and equipment from DSUSA.
  • The Team Contact shall complete a Team Boat Rental Application each quarter (by January 1, April 1, July 1, October 1) and forward it to the DSUSA Scheduler with a current Team roster and the Team’s requested practice dates and rental times for that quarter.
  • The Team Contact shall keep the information from the Team Boat Rental Application current by contacting the DSUSA Scheduler with any updates and changes.
  • The Team Contact shall have priority to schedule practice times selected at the Annual Scheduling Meeting and may schedule those practice times quarterly throughout the calendar year.
  • Team boat rental fees will be invoiced by the DSUSA Treasurer and must be paid in advance of boat use quarterly (by January 15, April 15, July 15, October 15).
  • Teams may use DSUSA dragon boats and equipment only during practice times confirmed by the DSUSA Scheduler.
  • Practices are actually 55 minutes—dragon boats and equipment must be returned at least 5 minutes before the hour or half hour for the next team to use.
  • Teams canceling practice times will receive credit only by notifying the DSUSA Scheduler at least twenty-four hours in advance of such practice times. Teams will automatically receive credit for practice times canceled by DSUSA due to weather/current conditions.
  • Damage to boats or equipment must be reported to the DSUSA Board immediately. The first $100.00 of any repair costs for damage beyond normal wear and tear will be shared among Teams involved.
  • Teams must provide their own lights for paddling between sunset and sunrise.
  • At the end of each practice, bumpers must be placed outside of the boat (between the boat and the dock or the next boat), the boat must be secured by the bow and stern lines to the dock, the boat must be locked to the dock, excess water from the boat must be bailed, all borrowed DSUSA equipment must be returned and neatly stowed in the DSUSA locker, and the locker must be locked.
  • All Team members must be knowledgeable about and adhere to the DragonSports USA Boat Safety Rules at all times.
